Excellent insights. You have really clarified something I long suspected but couldn’t really put a finger on, namely that the left sees itself as a third group of saviors. Thus we have the oppressed, the oppressors and the saviors. This also explains why wealthy and famous people so often become leftists. They can be both successful and empathetic, at least in their own mind.
I imagine in foragers, as a person became extremely high prestige, they often found it useful to wrap their prestige in a flag of helping others. This would reduce envy from the group, and could be a useful strategy in egalitarian political groups.
